Functional Work

My functional work is a sustained focus on form, texture, and playful imagery. I explore the human desire to fidget, touch, and fully know the objects that we interact with on a daily basis by using repetitive textural elements and leather cord stitching to enhance the vessels’ tactile qualities. Additionally, I use underglaze chalks and screen-printed newsprint transfers to treat the surface of works with childlike imagery as a way to reconnect to play, joy, and love.
